Gateway Theatre Walkthrough 

CAN (LET’S) did a walkthrough with multiple staff members of the Gateway Theatre in Richmond. We walked through the venue as a visitor would so that staff could better understand points of inaccessibility and accessibility. We then reviewed the performer and staff areas. Often, CAN (LET’S) is asked to do audits for participants and/or visitors of organizations but accessibility for performers, artists, and staff is often overlooked. The Gateway Theatre organization is committed to organization both front of house and behind the stage and in staff areas. Our walkthrough was a great opportunity for conversation and increasing awareness of the diversity of disability. We also spoke about the importance of supporting accessibility work through solid, easy to understand policies and communication (whether with audiences, performers, and/or staff).
