CAN (LET’S) continues our work on The Vancouver Writers Fest (VWF). Our committee has had two meetings thus far. The first was an introductory meeting of the members and a discussion about what accessibility we need. Members are: Amy Amantea, Alfiya Battelova, Anika Vervecken, Heather McCain, and Ladan Sahraei.
The Accessibility Engagement Roundtable is part of an ongoing, iterative process to improve accessibility for the Vancouver Writers Festival. We will be looking at access to events, venues, website, communication, and current materials and supports they have in place. We will also be discussing what trainings they provide their staff and volunteers. As Vancouver Writers Fest says “While we have a history of promoting accessibility and inclusivity, we’re aware that our efforts need to be deeper, more intentional, and more engaged – and we’re committed to doing so. This will be a multi-year, intersectional journey, and is one that has to start somewhere, so we are beginning with a focus on physical accessibility.”
Members of the round table conversations are asked to share our perspective, offer guidance, engage in conversation, make recommendations, and assess early implementation efforts. As is right, members are being paid for their work.
