Bringing Patients and Society Back into the Social Accountability of a Medical School

June 1, 2022

CAN (LET’S) has participated in meetings as part of the Bringing Patients and Society Back into the Social Accountability of a Medical School’ project over several years. This project has brought patient and community voices into health professional education to fulfill their social accountability mandate: to define and address the priority health concerns of the populations they have a responsibility to.

Working alongside patients and the public, the project has produced a set of evidence-guiding principles, models, and processes for their authentic, responsive, ongoing, and sustainable engagement in the mission, goals, curriculum, and delivery of medical education.

CAN (LET’S) continues to represent our members and all disabled patients. We work to ensure the entire person is represented, including being Indigenous, racialized, an immigrant, 2SLGBTQIA+, living in poverty, having chronic complex health issues, experiencing geographical inaccessibility, etc.
