June 21st is Indigenous Peoples Day. It’s a opportunity to enhance our learning about the rich and diverse cultures, voices, experiences and histories of Indigenous peoples, including First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
We recognized Indigenous Peoples Day by making a donation to Nahanee Creative towards the building of their permanent office in their home community or Eslhá7an. Nahanee Creative Inc is a Social Change Agency. In their words “We centre Indigenous Teachings, Connection to Land and Visual Cultural Sovereignty. We collaborate, strategize and co-create with clients who share our commitment to equity, decolonization, indigenization, redress and reconciliation. We offer decolonial consulting, communication and design, grounded in Squamish Matriarchy. We work in service of undoing colonial impacts, transforming neocolonial perceptions, and catalyzing social change.”
Nahanee Creative are raising $60,000 to build a small office. They’ve already started to clear the land and can’t wait to be back home.
While it is important to acknowledge these days of celebration and awareness, like Indigenous Peoples Day, it is even more important to do the work on all the other days of the year. In recognition of this, CAN will be offering Nahanee Creative future grants towards their office. We will also continue with our learning, including utilizing the amazing teachers and opportunities that Nahanee Creative offers. We have been to multiple of their events and learn something every time. We highly recommend you looking into their services.
