As the staff at Women Transforming Cities worked to finish their Hot Pink Paper Campaign policy recommendations, they asked CAN (LET’S) to have a conversation about the transit policy. They wanted to gain insight into the work CAN (LET’S) has already done to work to ensure equitable, accessible, safe transit. We spoke about our work with the All On Board campaign and our other transit advocacy.
Women Transforming Cities (WTC) amplifies the voices of communities who are otherwise not heard in the election process through their The Hot Pink Paper Campaign (HPPC). Through this campaign they hold the Mayor and council to account on their commitments to make Vancouver a city where everyone can thrive.
In the lead up to the municipal election, WTC runs deep engagement with community groups and wise organizations to identify the priority municipal issues for all women and girls in Vancouver for the upcoming election. They prioritize hearing from groups who are systematically excluded and oppressed from democratic processes. They synthesize all the important information we have heard into a list of policies asks for candidates running for Mayor and council with the question: Will you commit to implementing this if you are elected?
WTC uses the HPPC to challenge public discussion and debate around city issues and centre the folks who need the city to work for them most.
CAN (LET’S) has had several conversations with Women Transforming Cities staff regarding these policy recommendations. We are proud to have endorsed two of the asks.
