CAN’s (LET’S) Executive Director/founder was invited to speak on a panel fro a BC Federation of Labour event in September. The panel was about the rights for people living with disabilities in BC, and how they are progressing forward. They wanted CAN (LET’S) to speak from the perspective of a community activist who is building community around increasing disability awareness in BC, and organizing for accessible spaces, governments, and communities. We also spoke about the provincial and federal accessibility laws. The audience was comprised of union members in BC and some community groups by invitation only who serve and are led by people with disabilities.
Joining Heather McCain, CAN’s (LET’S) Executive Director/founder was the MC Louella Vincent (Human Rights Standing Committee Member, BC Federation of Labour) and panelists Sheryl Burns (Workers With Disabilities Representative to Executive Council, BC Federation of Labour), Kevin Love (Lawyer, Community Legal Assistance Society), and Margery Pazdor (Lawyer, Disability Law Clinic Disability Alliance BC).
