Creating Accessible Neighborhoods (Live Educate Transform Society) has been asked, and has accepted, to join the Canadian Feminist Disability Coalition (CFDC), a 30 month pan-Canadian systemic change project established by the Live Work Well Research Centre at the University of Guelph, in collaborative partnership with civil society organizations and stakeholders to build the leadership and advocacy skills of diverse women and girls with disabilities to become agents of change for their rights in Canada.
Coalition members are from across Canada and are being invited to participate for the following reasons:
We recognize that diverse women and girls with disabilities are underrepresented in leadership, advocacy and research in Canada.
Diverse girls and women with disabilities encounter significant gaps and barriers in social, economic and political legislation, policies and practices.
We know that diverse girls and women with disabilities are experts on the barriers to achieving their hopes, dreams and livelihoods, and how to dismantle these barriers.
Girls and women with disabilities who have been historically excluded from and invisible in advocacy, research, and policy have lived experience and wisdom in understanding barriers to inclusion and accessibility.
Your participation in this project will give the CFDC an opportunity to address these significant gaps and issues by developing policies and practices that empower and advance diverse women and girls with disabilities in leadership, participation and advocacy across economic, social and political spheres.
