Beyond the Binary

May 6, 2024

In May, LET’S participated in a Beyond the Binary Canada Roundtable meeting. Whereas, previously, the Beyond the Binary project was provincial, it is now national. This is in response to the enthusiasm and need demonstrated with our provincial guide.

The aim of the Beyond the Binary project is to develop a nationally relevant, and feasible guidance and resource package to support health researchers and health research institutions in their commitments to conducting gender equitable women’s health research.

The meeting included members from both the Community Task Force (people with lived/living experience) and Research Task Force. Members of both committees are listed on this Beyond the Binary webpage. The conversation was focused on identifying implementation strategies for the national guide. Participants discussed how to promote the new guide and a wish list of ideas to complement the guide itself.

Attendees were divided into three breakout rooms. Each breakout group discussed three questions:

1.  How can we generate awareness of the guide? What existing channels can we use?
2. How can we get people to use the guide?
3. What other resources would enhance/improve the use of the guide?

Currently, content modification is underway. During the Spring and Summer months, the final content updates, graphic design, and French translation took place. The final activity, the National Knowledge Exchange, is scheduled for October or November.

Later in the summer, there will be an opportunity to see the updates before the guide is finalized.
