Realize Project Advisory Committee

May 9, 2024

LET’S is proud of our continued relationship and work with Realize. Realize is the leading national, charitable, organization in Canada working to improve the health and well-being of people living with HIV and other episodic disabilities, across the lifespan, through integrated research, education, policy, and practice.

Realize reached out to LET’S and said that our organization would be a great addition to the Project Advisory Committee for a new project with Accessibility Standards Canada. Following are some of the goals for the project:

Improved understanding of whether the concept of episodic disabilities has been incorporated into the accessibility standards developed in Canada.
Greater public awareness of the meanings of accessibility for people living with episodic disabilities to inform the next generation of standards development in Canada.
Sustained utilization of “the episodic disabilities principles” in the development of the next generation of accessibility standards developed in Canada.
We look forward to meeting other advocates and seeing where this project goes. Episodic disabilities are often underrepresented, as our research project last year (with Realize) proved. It is important that accessibility not be inequitable to the broad spectrum of disabilities. This project has great promise for moving the conversation forward.
