Hummingbird Feminist Disability Coalition

August 21, 2024

The Hummingbird Feminist Disability Coalition (HFDC) “is on a mission to empower women, girls, trans, two-spirit, non-binary, and gender non-conforming individuals to become influential leaders and advocates within their communities. By fostering peer support, providing resources, and encouraging active engagement, HFDC aims to create a supportive environment where everyone’s voice is heard, valued, and empowered to drive change wherever they are on their journey.”

The August Activity for the Hummingbird Feminist Disability Coalition was a connection call, a coffee style check-in. The Coalition is exploring ways to stay connected in a more meaningful way. The sessions were hosted by DAWN’s (DisAbled Women’s Network of Canada) Regional Coordinator and Director of Indigenous Initiatives, Evelyn Huntjens (Xeni Gwet’in – Tsilhqot’in People of the Nemiah Nation).

The connection call was a great opportunity to catch up with members of the coalition. Every member is doing amazing work in their communities and beyond. Usually, meetings are focused on an agenda and we don’t get a chance to hear about the current going-ons of people. We find this is especially true with virtual meetings which don’t have the opportunity for networking during breaks, mealtimes, and after meetings. It was a lovely opportunity to have conversations without an agenda. We look forward to our continued connection with Hummingbird Feminist Disability Coalition members.
